One of the new friends I have made this year are my plants. Spending so much time alone requires me to find things to do that bring me joy and allow me to read and learn. My plants fill this need.
In March I had no plants and today probably have about 25. The Patio has become the Botany Laboratory. Spending time there potting and repotting my family of plants.
Watching YouTube and getting care instructions, decorating ideas and making friends with others that enjoy planning. My two young granddaughters live a plane ride away, so we hooked up on Portal one afternoon and I showed them how my Dumb Cane was turning yellow. Trimming the leaves and helping chose a pot they talked to me as the plant was repotted. Three weeks late it was growing and green. Plus, my grands have a few plants of their own now.
The Japanese Laurel is sprouting and has white freckles on its green leaves. Two plants I brought surprised me. They were little and the right size for starters. One day looking online I found that one was the Prayer Plant and the other the Heart of Jesus. The heart of Jesus was sitting on my coffee table.
The Zanziber Gems or the (ZZ Plants) are fun. Having two is interesting watching them grow, they do not need a lot of care and seem to grow fast. Golden Pathos grow up, down, full. Propagation of the pathos is easy placing it in water until roots grow you can also stick a piece of the plant into the soil for it to grow.
I talk to my plants. Good Morning, as I open the blinds and the sun pours in. Explanation of the up coming days events. Walking around enjoying the beautiful colors and personalities of the different plants. Sitting on the patio and reading feels so peaceful.
In the Bible garden plants are mentioned more then 125 times. Plants to me symbol God’s Love. A suggestion to anyone especially a Senior Citizen look at our time of rest as an opportunity to try something new. If it feels good and like it will be fun, try it.
Genesis 2: 8 says “The Lord planted a garden in Eden”.
We can plant gardens in our own homes and walk through them as God did his.
