Why?

Do we measure our friends and their level of participation in our lives, or do we just accept people that make us feel good? Do we accept people that make us feel good that fit in with our lifestyle? What happens when either of us gets sick?

In the old days we would visit, send cards, flowers, call and do any chore they may need done. Being sick this year has been hurtful, no not pitiful just hurtful. I have noticed my name being removed from committee list we used to check on the absent member and family to see how they were doing. Nope, zip your off the list.

As an African American Senior Citizen my story is valuable. However, the value of my experience is overlooked while they try to find answers to the problems in the health care system and the African American Community.

Since this is the age of illness friends send me stories of what is happening in their lives. They ask for prayer and i do try to check back to see how they are doing. If possible, sending a book (which I am famous for). If my story is told the response, is crickets. Leaving me to wonder did I present it wrong?

Not looking for anything other than an ear that cares but no response. They were my friend hmm or were they? Maybe it is needed that an IQ test be performed to make sure I qualify for friendship. Before we end let's go back to removing me from the lists I was on. Do you feel bad removing me? Do you wonder how I am doing? Did you pray for me?

The fact that at the moment I am in a facility means very little. My grandmother used to say "there but for the grace of God go I".
